Amazing natural beauty products made with honey

One may think of honey as simply a healthier way to sweeten tea, and yet, honey can actually serve as a natural way to keep hair, skin and nails gorgeous.  Companies have figured this out and now there are a variety of beauty products made with honey.

Honey is chock-full of nutrients, antioxidants, and healing compounds. It is also a natural humectant, meaning it attracts and retains moisture. This makes honey an ideal ingredient for beauty products ranging from bubble bath to face cream. And, honey’s soothing properties translate especially well to hair care.

Honey, an anti-irritant, can also be found in skin care products. One of my absolute favorite beauty products made with honey is Fresh’s Creme Ancienne Ultimate Nourishing Honey Mask, $140 here. It’s a true luxury…and priced as such. This hydrating treatment is crafted with pure honey and it is one of the most nourishing products I have tried. It is also said to improve skin’s elasticity.

Honey helps ban dead skin as well. I adore Brown Sugar Body Soufflé by LaLicious, $35 here. Oils, pure cane sugar, vitamin E and honey exfoliate and moisturize. Plus, the sugar crystals are so fine that they never feel gritty.  Product such as EO’s Chamomile & Honey Shampoo ($9 at Smallfloer.com) call upon the healing powers of honey to gently cleanse hair while nourishing it.

How to make your own beauty products with honey

That said, one certainly doesn’t have to spend $140 to benefit from honey’s skin and hair saving ingredients! Today, I’ve rounded up some home beauty recipes for the honey aficionado. A hint: opt for raw honey. Raw honey has not been heat-treated or pasteurized and therefore it contains more active phytonutrient antioxidants and enzymes. In short, using raw honey equals more beauty (and health) benefits for you!

  • Bath Time: Pour a ¼ cup of honey under warm, running water to create a soft, sweet escape.
  • Hair Help: Make a moisturizing Rosemary Honey Olive Oil Conditioner by combining 1/2 cup of honey, 1/4 cup of olive oil, four drops essential oil of rosemary and one teaspoon of xanthan gum. Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl and then apply sparingly to dampened hair.
  • Dry Skin Repair: This Milk and Honey Mask will help banish dry skin for good. Mix 1/4 cup of cream with a 1/4 cup honey in a glass bowl. Warm until honey is melted and then allow to cool. Apply liberally to face and neck, leave on for fifteen minutes and then rinse.
