The Buzz: From Bullying to Books, Life After 50 is Never Dull!

My week was a whirlwind…and I loved it! I hope yours was, too. I do believe that after 50, staying active and curious is a must! Do you?

At any rate, in case you missed any of it, here’s what is new and newsworthy in our community of visible, vibrant women over 50 this week.

Embrace the Hoopla After 50

This week I shared my belief that we have to laugh at the absurd. We all have hoopla in our lives. Thank God or life would be so boring. But we should stop and smell the roses when the hoopla gets us crazed.

My story about how a quick trip to the market turned into an error-filled, yet laughable, journey got a large response from so many of you who have made the EXACT SAME MISTAKE as me.

Let’s Get “In The Bag” Together 😉

I love handbags. I collect them, but I do so wisely. I have many beautiful bags that I have owned for, quite literally, decades. However, I don’t buy just to buy. I purchase bags that add something special to my wardrobe and I typically opt for quality over quantity.

If you are in search for the perfect clutch, I gathered a list of gorgeous blue bags in a full range of price points. Read the story here and then tell me if you can guess which one our community clicked on the most?

What is BB Cream?

You may be spotting BB creams on the shelves of your local drugstores and specialty beauty boutiques, but not many of us really know what this product promises to do. The “BB” stands for blemish balm in Asia, where this multitasking product first gained popularity, but in the States “BB” stands for beauty balm.

BB creams are touted as do-it-all products that promise to replace a host of items on your vanity; think foundation, serum, moisturizer, primer, and SPF. But, before you head out, determined to come back a BB cream devotee, take my advice and pick one of the BB creams that stood out amongst the many brands I’ve personally tried for women over 50.

My BIGGEST News of the Week Marks a “New Chapter” Personally and Professionally

I am under contract with a major publishing company in New York, who contacted me, to write my first book. I landed a book deal!  I am now a professional author!

How did I feel when I received the email and call from the Managing Editor at the publishing house?

Grateful and shocked!

What were my first words to my husband, my ultimate concierge?

“I cannot believe this is happening to me!”

What was my ultimate concierge’s response?

“You earned this. You have dedicated yourself to writing for five years. You write with openness and optimism and remind the women who read your stories that anything is possible.”

So, I am on to a new adventure, darlings. Please take the ride with me. I will share every happening with you.  I need you, my friends from all over the world. I want to share this next “chapter” with you all. If you missed the BIG announcement, read it here.

My Story About Peer Pressure After 50

Our community reacted so strongly and with such support to my story this week about what to do when faced with peer pressure after 50.

Here’s the scoop: I was in a situation not long ago when a woman could not own up to her bad behavior toward another woman in our group. It is an uncomfortable, albeit totally true, story of peer pressure after 50 and how it was handled. I asked you all… what would you do in my shoes?

Your answers did not surprise me but they did inspire me! Thank you all so very much.

I retired at 65 but soon got bored. I decided to go to college and get my degree in Human Resources Management. I feel better about myself now than I did at 40. Thank you for the encouragement. 50 is the new 30 and I love it.
