Can We Talk?

Coffee Talk With Susan Good

By Susan "Honey" Good

It would be nice if we could all gather in my living room, or yours, and "kibbitz" over coffee! Until that day comes, let's do it virtually, shall we?

Here's what's on my mind this week…

The other day, I wrote about kindness and the need for more of it! Many of you chimed in! Most of you were in full agreement, which made me think... what if we all tried every week to fill the world with a little more kindness?

How to be kinder

I started thinking after my story last week, how can I be more kind? And so, I went to my dear friend, Google, who always has the answer :-)

I happened across this lovely list of 134 ways to be kind and I thought, maybe once every few days I can pick something off this list? Yes, I am already a kind soul but what if I commit to doing more, to being kinder? Let's all, as they say, throw kindness around like confetti.

Here's a sampling of some of the kind-hearted ideas on this list:

  • Have a shirt that your friend always compliments you on? Why not give it to her?

  • Offer to get groceries for your friend or relative who has a broken leg or other mobility problem

  • Make extra copies of photos and send them to the people who are in the images

  • Call everyone you know and tell them you love them

  • Give warm clothes, shoes, and boots to the homeless

How to be fit -- and fierce -- at any age!

On Saturday, I  wrote about Kathrine Switzer, a woman who, in 1967, was almost stopped from participating in The Boston Marathon.... because of her sex! In case you missed it, read my story here.

Switzer did finish the marathon that year AND she finished the race for a second time at 70 years of age this year. This made me think about health and the idea that we should or shouldn't do certain things at certain ages.

I'm curious, how do you stay active? How do you stay fit? I would especially love to hear from any of you who have found satisfaction in running which I know does, in fact, become more difficult for many as time marches on.

Can you imagine running 26+ miles at 70 years of age? This woman is fierce!

As a side note, I just discovered that the word "fierce" is a compliment amongst younger women. I thought of it as aggressive, but times they do change, my friends. I was recently told I was "fierce" only to discover that is the ultimate compliment from the under 40 crowd. Ah, we never stop living and learning, do we?

White style all year long

I also wrote last week about wearing white in any season and at any age. So it was only fitting that I share this chic white ensemble (above) with you today. I love it because it is effortless and comfortable and stylish! What do you think?

Stay tuned, later this week I'll be sharing all the details about this look and how you can recreate it with similar pieces, even if you are on a budget.

What's on your summer reading list?

Lastly, I'm putting together a summer reading list and I'd love to get insight from you. Share your summe reading picks either in the comments below or on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Happy Monday, dear readers! Here's to an incredible week for each and every one of us!
