DIY: How To Make Homemade Face Masks

Going to the spa to get a facial is an amazing treat, but not everyone has the time, money, or esthetician’s license for that. In between those special trips to the spa, you can use items from your kitchen to create a home-spa treatment. I’m a huge fan of face masks and avocados. In addition to making sandwiches better, avocados are full of healthy fats and nutrients that moisturize the skin.

There are two variations of very simple avocado face masks that I enjoy. Both will look like boring guacamole. Rather than eating these concoctions with chips, you can put them on your face. Your skin will find them delicious.

Avocado & Olive Oil Face Mask Ingredients:

  • ½ an avocado pitted and peeled
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Avocado & Honey Face Mask Ingredients:

  • ½ an pitted and peeled
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Depending on your mood and how fancy you feel, you can also add other optional items such as a teaspoon of lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, or an egg white.

Word to the wise, use a very ripe avocado so that you are able to really smooth it out. If it is chunky, pieces of the mask will slide down your face and fall on your clothes and pillow. I learned this the hard way. It may also be helpful to have a towel at the ready.

Pick your mask. Blend and mash the ingredients in a bowl until the mixture is smooth.

Apply the mask to your clean face and swanlike neck, if you want.

Leave it on for at least 15 minutes, relaxing and thinking of all the nachos you could be eating.

When you have had your fill of moisturizing relaxation, rinse the mask off with warm water. You can splash some cold water on your face at the end to close those pores. Pat dry your face ever so gently. Follow up with your preferred moisturizer. Marvel at how wonderful your skin looks in the mirror.

Your skin will look and feel so smooth afterward thanks to the mighty avocado!
