DIY: How To Make Homemade Sugar Scrubs

Exfoliating is a great thing to do for your skin. It helps remove old skin cells to make way for your newer cells that are waiting for their turn in the limelight. As a warning, even though exfoliating feels great, be careful not to overdo it as this may irritate the skin.

If you don’t have a loofah sponge or exfoliating glove, or if you do but just want to change up your routine, you can MacGyver your very own exfoliating body scrub. There are numerous, even countless, scrubs to make, but we’re going to focus on a simple sugar scrub.

For a super simple homemade sugar scrub, you will need access to your very own pantry or cupboard. Other items you will need include:

  • ½ cup Brown Sugar
  • ½ cup White Sugar
  • ½ cup Olive Oil
  • A container (like that empty salsa jar you intended to recycle and reuse or that clean tupperware container)

Optional for overachievers:

  • A favorite essential oil

Regardless of the exact measurements listed above, you can combine 2 parts sugar to 1 part olive oil. Thoroughly mix your scrub and put it in your container of choice.

Retreat to the shower to scrub your skin! Scoop out a portion to massage onto your skin, targeting those dry areas like elbows and knees. Leave the scrub on for a few minutes, so that you can take a moment to relax before you rinse it off.

You will almost be able to hear those dead skin cells yelling farewell as they wash down the drain.
