Not only are they aesthetically pleasing, but they're a simple way to emphasize a theme or celebration. Luckily, cupcake toppers are extremely easy to make. The DIY kind will also cost you little to nothing! Keep reading for three different ways to dress up your cupcakes.

Metallic Sparkler DIY Cupcake Topper

Supplies:

  • Tinsel garland
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Toothpicks

1) Cut a 1 1/2-inch segment of tinsel.

2) Hot glue a toothpick to the center of the tinsel piece.

3) Bend the tinsel upwards and around the toothpick. Trim where necessary.

4) Repeat with the remaining toothpicks. Time to party!

Book Page DIY Cupcake Topper

This particular version can add a rustic touch to your party decor. Since paper punchers are available in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, you can also make these for any occasion. For example, these butterflies would be ideal for Easter or a spring-themed party!

Supplies:

  • Page from a vintage/old book
  • Paper punch in the shape of you choice
  • Toothpicks
  • Hot glue gun

1) Punch out an even number of shapes from the book paper. You will need two shapes per topper.

2) Attach the toothpick to the center of one paper shape with a small dot of hot glue.

3) Apply another dot of hot glue and add a second paper shape, sandwiching the toothpick in between.

4) Repeat with the remaining paper shapes and toothpicks. How easy was that?

Fabric Bow DIY Cupcake Topper

Using fabric scraps is not only a resourceful way to adorn your cupcakes, but it's also a great stash-buster. Don't have any fabric scraps? Use strands of ribbon instead.

  • Fabric scissors
  • Fabric scraps
  • Toothpicks
  • Hot glue gun

1) Cut a strip of measuring at least 6 inches long and 1/2 inch wide.

2) Hot glue a toothpick to the center of the fabric.

3) Tie the fabric around the toothpick.

4) Trim the fabric accordingly.
