We're savvy and sophisticated women over 50! We don't care about "trends," right? Well, not exactly. I love fall trends. I adore the opportunity to update my lipstick hue, throw on a faux fur stole (a hot new look via Glamour), try Flare jeans (like I did in my denim post here) or even simply opt for a new autumn lacquer hue... "Wicked" by Essie, anyone?
So, this week I've hand selected a few of Fall 2015's biggest beauty trends that are actually fun, flattering and wearable. Whether you slick on a new lip gloss or dust on a fresh "coat" of nail polish, celebrating the season is an invigorating way to stay up to date and remind the world that we love how we look at every age!
Red Hot by Harper's Bazaar
Harper's Bazaar names red hot lips as a must have beauty trend for fall. My Mother would agree that this isn't exactly groundbreaking but what is news worthy is how red is being worn. This season, red is not so fire engine but still on fire! Shades of brick, burgundy, and my fave, Chinese Red are all the rage. I'm wearing Tom Ford lipstick in "Velvet Cherry" below. Get it here.

Nails Go Goth
If you're ready to say, "bye, bye nude" and "hello long, dark and handsome," then now is time! Dark hues are back for Fall 2015. At designer Derek Lam's runway presentation, models wore Jin Soon in Audacity, a deep wine shade. At Nicole Miller, Union Jack Black by Butter London was layered beneath Racing Green for a forest green manicure. And at the runway show of Tanya Taylor, nails went Halloween-esque with a spine motif using Morgan Taylor Nail Lacquer in Little Black Dress, Could Have Foiled Me and Fame Game.
I've recently been sporting darker nails myself (as pictured below), and I love the look. There's something about a deep hue that looks so "polished" if you will on well manicured nails. But most importantly, at every age, our hands are beautiful, aren't they? I think women over 50 should feel proud calling attention to theirs -- I am! My polish, below, Tom Ford "09 plum noir." Get it here.

Slick and Sleek Hair
Slicked back hair is a trend for Fall 2015 and what better way to show off that glorious face, darlings! Dare you embrace this new trend? Why not?! It's reasonably effortless and undeniably stylish.
To try this look, create a bit of volume at the front of your hairline and the crown; then slick hair back using a texture paste such as Kevin Murphy Gritty Business. You can see how I wore this trend below and yes, I do it myself. It's quite easy and carefree. Plus, it's a great style for showing off a favorite pair of earrings.
Here's the takeaway: it is never too late to love the way you look and it's always the right season to celebrate your beauty, inside and out, by embracing trends and new styles... or whatever makes your heart go pitter patter!
