How to Celebrate Galentine's Day

By: Brynne Ramella

Fans of the TV show "Parks and Recreation" know the term "Galentine's Day." The patron saint of Galentine's Day, Leslie Knope, invented the holiday. In the show, she sets aside February 13th as an annual day to celebrate the female friendships in her life. Although Galentine's Day is a fake holiday, it's a pretty thing to celebrate in your life. February 13 happens to be on a Friday this year, which means you can take the whole night to celebrate your lady friends! Take these steps to have a great night with your friends.

Step #1: No boys allowed.

The most important aspect of Galentine's Day is that there are no boys allowed! It doesn't matter if you are in a committed relationship, just starting to see someone or happily rocking the single life - the boys stay at home for this one. In the words of Leslie Knope, this day is all about "ladies celebrating ladies."

Step #2: Get dressed up!

My mom has always told me, "Look good, feel good." So throw on your favorite top or dress to celebrate with your friends! There's no need to dress up to impress anybody, so just dress up to make yourself feel beautiful!

Step #3: Go out with your friends.

Spend your day shopping and going out to lunch with your friends. Or you can try desserts and drinks. If you're feeling really adventurous, go out dancing! Galentine's Day is all about having a great time with your favorite ladies!

Step #4: Indulge.

Galentine's Day is about celebrating female friendships, but it's also a time to indulge! Get the blouse you've been eyeing from your favorite store to wear for your Galentine's Day celebration. Buy your girlfriends a nice bottle of wine at dinner. And order that sinful dessert after dinner. Your happiness is just as important as your girlfriends today!

Step #5: Show your friends how much you love them!

End your Galentine's Day by showing your friends how much you appreciate them! Show your friends a little love with these Valentine's Day gifts that won't break the bank. Or give your anti-Valentine's Day friends one of these gifts that will make them laugh.  You don't even have to spend money on your friends for Galentine's Day. Show them how much you care by making them homemade Valentines!
