Picnic Chic: Navigating Memorial Day with Style

By: The Honey Good Editorial Team

Once upon a time, the uniform de rigueur for Memorial Day weekend was an itsy-bitsy-teeny-weeny yellow polka dot bikini.  Fast forward a lifetime, and we've got much more on our plates than sunbathing. There's entertaining our adult children (still!), corralling "the Grands," making sure friends and husbands are happy, and whipping up our famous potato salad.  Stop at the bakery for some "homemade" sweet treats, grab a red manicure at a favorite salon, and who has the time to think about what to wear?

Not to worry, darlings, this week we rounded up some easy breezy looks to take you from manic matriarch to holiday fashionista in no time.

1) White Capris + Billowy Tops & Sweaters = Modern Grand Mama

Opt for white capris in your choice of fits and materials, from slim, stretch to loose, linen. Then, pair with a billowy blouse or sweater in shades of neutral for a classic look that is spot on by sand, sea or cityscape.  Looks we love below are from Stella Carakasi, Eileen Fisher and Stella again, respectively.

2) Bermuda Shorts + Blouses in Black and White = Easy Breezy Bubba

There's nothing as effortlessly chic as the classic Bermuda short paired with your choice of blouses.  To keep the look modern, opt for black and white geometrics that speak to great style rather than cotton candy hues that scream summer. Those we love, below, are -- head to toe -- from Chico's.

3) Pencil Skirt + Cardigan or Tee = Classic "Honey"

One can never go wrong with a pencil skirt and a basic tee or cotton cardigan. Pair this outfit with sandals for a look that's spot on at picnics, garden parties et al or dress up this outfit with heels and you're ready for cocktail parties, dinners at dusk and more. Thankfully, Ann Taylor doesn't disappoint when it comes to serving up flattering, affordable pencil skirts in the season's newest patterns and shapes.

4) Linen Tunic Dress + Strappy Sandals = Modern, Mature and Memorial Day Ready!

There's perhaps nothing easier than grabbing a linen tunic dress, slipping on a favorite pair of strappy sandals plus oversized sunglasses (prescription, of course!) and calling it a day.  If you aren't familiar with Boden, you'll love the site if for nothing else than their affordable selection of linen tunic dresses in the prettiest of spring prints and priced just right at less than $100 each,
