Recipe: Mashed Potatoes

Okay, I know this seems obvious, but I've had a lot of people abuse potatoes over the holidays and I am over it. Mashed potatoes aren't hard. If you wanna add garlic, cheese, whatever. But here is a basic recipe that will get people to say "These are the best mashed potatoes ever!"

Ingredients

  • 2 russet potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup of cream
  • 3 tbsp of butter
  • salt and white pepper

Instructions

  1. Peel and dice your potatoes.Put them in a pot and cover them with water (salt the water, generously). The water should only cover the potatoes by about an inch. This is the secret to good, fast, delicious mashed potatoes:don't boil them in too much water. Also, don't start the water boiling before you add the potatoes.
  2. The rest is pretty basic - once the potatoes come to a boil, check their tenderness. Once they are able to be easily smashed by a fork, drain them and mix them with the butter and cream. Season with salt and pepper and serve!

If you feel as though you have added too much cream or butter, don't worry. Simple put your potatoes back on the stove in a pot and heat them up. As you cook them you can cook out the flavor of those ingredients. Likewise, if you are reheating your potatoes you might want to add a dab of butter to bring them back to life.
