By Susan "Honey" Good
In my sweet home Chicago it is now, undeniably, sweater season. But sweaters can be vexing, because an ill-fitting or bulky sweater is one of the most unflattering items a woman can wear. And so, I set out to discover how one could stay warm and still look lovely. I began searching...
In doing my research about this season's chic, slimming sweaters, I came across this advice via Harper's Bazaar in an article entitled, How to Dress Your Age...
"Maybe another key to getting it right at every age—as Annabel Hodin, a personal stylist and former model, believes—is that the basis of style is an understanding of not only who you are but also the kind of woman you want to project."
I could not have said it better myself! Perhaps that is why, at our age, I find fashion to be so much fun. I truly know who I am, and who I am becoming, and I relish showing the many facets of myself to the world through fashion. Do you?
And so, without further adieu, this week I've rounded up a host of slimming sweaters priced as low as about $30 to well over one thousand! For a little fun, I've left the price off each description so you'll have to click on the link to see how much each sweater costs. I wonder, can you guess -- by looking -- which sweaters are most affordable and which are most expensive?
Perhaps not! After all, the value of a great sweater, much like the woman who wears it, can't necessarily be seen at first glance. The value is in the fabric and the craftsmanship... and that requires further investigation.
Available in hues including navy, bone, aubergine, red, black and beyond, this long cashmere duster has an open front and long, relaxed fit.
I adore the femininity of this stunning black sweater from Philosophy Di Lorenzo Serafini. Crafted of a waffle knit wool, this chic sweater is available in midnight blue, pictured above.
I just love the shimmer in this short, foil pointelle sweater via TopShop. Available in gold or silver, the rose-gold coating and vertical pointelle stripes make this piece slimming and stylish.
Get it here.
What better symbol for a woman who knows who she is and loves life than the butterfly? I own several pieces with this symbol of beauty and rebirth. This sweater, by Gucci, is embellished wool in fall's favorite hue... orange!
The Tory Burch "Simone" cardigan is a classic. Crafted of merino wool with reverse stitching and Tory's signature logo buttons, this timeless style is available in black and ivory.
I think showing a bit of shoulder is a lovely and appropriate way to add some va-va-voom to your fall sweater wardrobe. This Nicole Miller sweater, sold at JC Penney, boasts a flattering cowl neck and is available in ivory, red and black.
Petite women can have quite a hard time finding sweaters that flatter without overpowering, which is why I'm highlighting Bobeau's long textured PETITE cardigan in the stunning wine pictured above and a must-have, basic black.
