Sustainable Style from Stella Carakasi

By: Susan "Honey" Good

I’ve discovered a new designer recently and so… I must share with you all! Meet Stella Carakasi, whose cascading cardigan I’m wearing here. Carakasi has become a pioneer in creating sustainable clothing with style to spare.

Here’s how it happened: Stella Carakasi joined the Boutrous brothers in 1993, bringing with her a vision of using ecologically friendly fabrics and sustainable manufacturing methods to the women’s clothing industry. Together, their brand Two Star Dog Inc. became the first U.S. company to develop and market a complete clothing collection made from hemp. Then, in 2012, Carakasi created Stella Carakasi after deciding to create a line of high-end yet affordable designer clothing.

The Stella Carakasi collection combines European architectural design and casual elegance with silhouettes that are oh-so-flattering, luxurious fabrics and surprising design details. Aside from the design aspect of her clothing, Carakasi goes above and beyond just style by incorporating natural fabrics and new fabric technology into her clothing to create a sustainable and eco-friendly line. Materials such as Organic Cotton, Linen, Hemp, Bamboo, Tencel®, and Modal® allow Carakasi’s clothing to truly live up to it’s mission: to create beautiful, unique, and affordable designs while making a positive impact on local and global communities.

My favorite thing about Carakasi’s clothing is that she really allows for a woman’s confidence to shine through.  She calls it “minimalism with a twist.”  It’s not about what you wear but how you wear it and when the designs are this beautiful, it’s hard to not feel amazing in her clothes.
