I often speak of my passion for a social media network called Instagram. Are you on it, dear readers?
There are of course, plenty of young and stylish women on Instagram sharing their daily outfits (or #OOTD as they call it) but, more importantly, there's a burgeoning community of women after 50 sharing their own fierce fashions.
So today, yet again, I have rounded up some amazingly stylish and bold Instagram accounts to follow for women after 50 who -- like many of us -- take pride in how they look and use beauty + style to show the world that life after 50 is VISIBLE!
The Accidental Icon | @iconaccidental
"I started Accidental Icon because I was having trouble finding a fashion blog or magazine that offered an urban, modern, intellectual aesthetic but also spoke to women who live what I call “interesting but ordinary lives” in cities. Women (like me) who are not famous or celebrities but are smart, creative, fashion forward, fit, thoughtful, engaged, related and most importantly clear and comfortable with who they are..."
The woman behind the Accidental Icon blog and Instagram, Lyn Slater, is a retired social worker that dedicated her life to fighting against child sexual abuse, and then decided that her passion for fashion never left her. On her blog, the Accidental Icon, she often shares chic self-portraits and her style is truly inspiring.
Bag and a Beret | @bagandaberet
"...I wanted to connected with other women, especially those over 40, who felt the same, who recognized the power of self care, community care, and world care through style. The positive vibes created by joyful style are wonderfully infectious. I didn’t know what the results would be, but the connections I’ve made with a variety of women have exceeded my expectations."
For a taste of bold and fearless fashion, I adore the Instagram account called Bag and a Beret. The lovely woman behind the account, and blog of the same name, is Mel Kobayashi, who wanted to take her passion for comedy, art and fashion onto the web. Take a trip with her on this journey of plaids, prints and patterns with a healthy dose of comedic relief on her blog here.
Style Crone | @stylecrone
"My beloved husband of 32 years was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2005, and he transitioned on April 20th, 2011 after many years of intrusive and difficult treatments. As I grieve the loss of Nelson’s inspirational spirit and negotiate life’s journey without him, I find a powerful form of art and expression in my daily conceptualizing and personal presentation of my own form of body art, which I hope to share by chronicling my ‘displays’ on this blog."
Judith Boyd, is a 73 year old blogger and style inspiration!
You will often spot her in a hat as her passion for headwear is tried and true! She spent years caring for individuals with spinal cord injuries, but, when her husband "transitioned" from her life, in her words, she found peace in fashion. Follow Style Crone’s blog -- and Instagram account -- to escape in a world of feathers, veil, tulle and more.
Iris Apfel | @iris.apfel
Clearly, I just can't get enough of Iris!
The famous fashion icon has her own Netflix documentary called “Iris,” which details her captivating life and love affair with fashion. At 95 years old, her day’s agendas are still packed full of events and adventures and, of course, fashion galore.
