Can I ask you a personal question? When was the last time you updated your Thanksgiving table? I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with tradition. In fact, this time of year is the time for tradition. You absolutely should reminisce at every opportunity. As you unwrap keepsakes passed on for generations with the scent of vanilla and nutmeg heavy in the air. All the while Billie Holiday croons on the record player – soak it in.
Do it all. All the traditions. Cut down your tree by hand at the local tree farm (or get a professional to do it for you). Get apple cider doughnuts from the orchard while they’re still warm. While you’re at it, grab some apples for your famous galette.
But while traditions are great, wonderful even, that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t get updated. No one would say that. Not even Nana.
It might be time to update your Thanksgiving table. You can keep traditional elements if that is your wish. Your great-aunt’s turkey-shaped gravy boat can cozy up to a minimalist terra cotta salad plate. They’ll have a grand time. What’s more? You’ll breathe a sigh of satisfaction knowing that, not only did your turkey turn out perfectly, but that you’ve created something new. Something beautiful. Something that is 100% you.
Thanksgiving table: Set to stun.

#2 UPDATE YOUR FLATWARE
There is no simpler way to update your table than to swap out your flatware for something new and updated.
#3 UPDATE YOUR LINENS
This lovely look is achieved with simple, clean glassware, and single sprigs of dried botanicals. Don’t forget to add pops of rich, autumnal colors. The linens pictured, in a spicy cinnamon hue, are simply gorgeous. You can find them here on Etsy.
#4 SET THE MOOD WITH LIGHTING
You don’t have to break the bank to set the table…and the mood. These candles and holders are a steal but don’t they look oh pretty?
#5 SWITCH OUT YOUR GLASSWARE
The next idea to update your Thanksgiving table is to change out your glassware. You could absolutely use crystal glassware from Great Aunt Silvia on your mother’s side, and gasp every time the table wobbles. Or you could start a new tradition.
#6 FOREGO THE LARGE CENTERPIECE
Large centerpieces can be absolute showstoppers. But they can also get in the way of conversation. Literally. Instead, you can update your Thanksgiving table with vases and single sprigs of botanicals. How lovely.
#7 BRING IN SOME NEW PLATES
New plates can be a great way to update your table. What better canvas for your masterpiece of a dinner?
#8 MIX AND MATCH STYLES
Why not mix in some modern, natural tones in with some more glamorous or traditional ones? The contrast of the bold shine of gold and silver with the muted, bare look of natural elements can be stunning.
