Welcome to 2020, the year of the GRANDWOMAN
The GRANDWOMAN is fully aware that change is in the air for the woman after 50 plus. She may be retired, possibly is divorced or widowed. Maybe she has downsized from a larger home to a condo, a retirement community or moved to a new state. Her past achievements are fulfilled. As my Ultimate Concierge would say, “She is footloose and fancy-free.” It is her time to reinvent herself, to charge full force into a new way of life.
A GRANDWOMAN is above all, wise. She knows the sum of her choices made after the age of 50 plus will become her new way of life. Her wisdom tells her it is time to explore new parts of herself as well as endless opportunities. She is aware she has no choice but to face life’s changes and looks for ways to reinvent herself and explore.
A GRANDWOMAN steps out of her comfort zone. She questions how she wants to shape her life, she looks in the mirror and self reflects. What are her desires? She knows she has earned her personal type of moxie! She decides with heightened curiosity, exuberance and wonder that she is going to dare herself to dare. 2020 is the year of the GRANDWOMAN at HoneyGood.com.
My Advice
Darlings, 2020 is your year to reinvent yourself. To get into your go go go mode and grow. You must take the risk and the uncomfortable leap or you will forever stay exactly who and where you are. That is a no, no! Reinvention leaves the door open to continue exploring different parts of yourself all the days of your life. Exploring is self-growth. You must think inward and whenever you want to make a change, look for what brings you joy and fulfillment. Reinvent yourself.
GRANDWOMEN I know Who Reinvented Themselves
I know a diverse group of women around the world who reinvent themselves after the age of 50 plus.
They had a great influence on me after I turned 50. But if you were to ask me who had a greater influence on me I would say three powerful women in my family. My mother, my step-grandmother and my aunt.
My mother is my role model.
She taught me the word reinvention without saying a word, clearing the brush for me by her actions. So, I followed in her footsteps. She was passionate about all that she did. That led me to believe my passions could become my reality if I worked hard. As well, she taught me the importance of being my own woman; to dance to my own drumbeat.
Dare to Reinvent
My mother taught me not to depend on anyone else to make my dreams come true. She showed me by her actions that a woman is an elixir in marriage and how to dress with style. My mother never stopped working hard to accomplish goals. She dared herself to reinvent in many different areas up until the age of 95.
I recall when she broke her leg skiing and was in a cast for six months to the top of her thigh. However, she continued to go dancing with my dad. It was during winter so she knit beautiful colorful socks with sequins, pearls, and stones to match each outfit to keep her toes warm. My mom empowered me with her grit. She has the moxie of ten women.
My step-grandmother married my grandfather around the age of 50. She found herself as a ‘newcomer’ in a family with 5 grown stepsons, 5 daughters-in-law, and 14 grandchildren. Her capability to reinvent herself to become the Matriarch in a huge family was applauded with our love. She was people smart and oh what a good job she did caring for all of us.
I credit her with showing me just how far kindness goes. I respected her and loved her and as far as I was concerned, she was my grandmother. As the grandmother in a blended family, her actions showed me the way. She felt joy when she earned the respect and love from strangers through her moxie attitude.
My Aunt Essie’s Love
My Aunt Essie was the opposite of my mom; though she was my mother’s sister. If I put the women’s capabilities together they would make a perfect puzzle. They were the ying and the yang. Lucky for me! She was a delicious piece of chocolate, sweet to the last bite and she loved being a homemaker. I marveled at her beautifully set tables and the fresh flowers of bouquets that graced her home. She was always reinventing her recipes, the colors in her bouquets scattered around her home and the beautiful and feminine linens on her bed.
Aunt Essie was our family’s lifeblood of love. I always had her ear and I loved her like a mother. I still strive to copy everything she was and everything she did. She had the sweet moxie to her core.
One of my closest friends is aware of who she is. She knows what works for her. She can change course when she feels she must aide others and reinvents herself with ultimate grace. I am in awe of her. She does not have a selfish bone in her body and gives of herself never seeking reward. Her reward is unselfish moxie.
My Role As A Mother And Grandmother And Honey Good
In the year of the GRANDWOMAN, I want to try to continue to exhibit the qualities of the four women with moxie…with a few added caveats.
I want my children, grandchildren and you to be your authentic self. To embrace life with a passion and never stop having the desire to reinvent and grow.
My mother is a force; I am my mother’s daughter and her force transcends from me to my daughter. Then, her force transcends to her daughter, my granddaughter.
The sum of your choices becomes your life. Generational issues, values, traditions, and personality that impact the mother-daughter relationship such as inherited emotional patterns and behaviors.
Let us use the positive and moxie-filled energies from GRANDWOMEN in our lives to create greater joy, respect and love. It can be done, Darlings.
Let’s all become GRANDWOMEN in 2020.
