8 Ways to Brighten Your Home During COVID-19
Since real estate prices have gone up in the last decade, many people have found new and creative ways to maximize their small space. However, for some of us, space isn’t really the problem but the lighting. We often end up living in a space that doesn’t really inspire life. If you’re struggling with the same problem, here are some simple things you can do to brighten up your home.
1. Get Rid of Heavy Drapery
Before adding anything, see if there’s anything you can get rid of that’s contributing to your room being dark and gloomy. The most obvious ones are your curtains. If there’s not enough light coming in, it’s probably being blocked by your heavy drapery.
Put them away and replace them with sheer curtains instead. It will do a great job of covering your windows while still allowing light to get into the room.
2. Use Mirrors
Mirrors not only create the illusion of space, but they also add more light to a room. Even if you don’t get a lot of natural sunlight, it will still get brighter because a mirror can bounce light around the space. Consider getting a large mirror and position it across the window where your light source is.
3. Add in Some Metals
Metals work similarly to mirrors since they too bounce off light, adding brightness to a room. Whether it’s gold, silver, rose gold, or copper, you can just add small elements of it in the form of a vase, a pot, or a picture frame.
4. Add Lighting
In addition to bringing in natural light, you should also be adding in artificial light. Think bright, white bulbs. Place them in areas of your room that doesn’t get enough light.
5. Space Out Your Furniture
In addition to bringing actual light to your space, it should also feel light. Too often, a room will feel heavy and stuffy because the furniture is too close to each other. Get rid of any unnecessary furniture in the room so you have more opportunities to space them out. Furniture like sectional sofas can transform a room because they can be separated and pieced back together. Keep this kind of furniture around and get rid of the bulky ones.
Avoid making the common mistake of positioning your furniture against the wall. Most people do this without thought as to why. Experiment with floating your furniture. This is when you remove pieces of the wall and position them in the middle of the room. Doing this gives the illusion of having more space and makes the room easier to navigate.
6. Bring in the Plants
More people are beginning to add plants in their home, and so should you. It does a great job at sprucing up a room. Not only that, but it also improves indoor air quality. Add in a few low-maintenance plants in your living room. If you’re worried about killing your plants, you can opt for a vase of fresh flowers instead. They’re a no-fail way to freshen up your space and will last you for two weeks.
7. Repaint Your Walls
The right paint color can transform a room. If your room is painted in dark colors, it’s going to have a dark feel. You can easily fix it by repainting your walls into some brighter color like white or light gray. It will instantly make your room feel more fresh, airy, and spacious.
8. Get a Bright Rug
The style you get depends on your taste. You can opt for a light neutral color or one that has a cheery, colorful design. The latter will instantly add energy to your space. Whatever kind you choose, make sure it blends with the rest of your decor.
Have Fun!
But remember, no matter what step you chose on this list to brighten your home, make sure it fits your style and taste. Love what items you chose and don’t be afraid to get creative. Have fun with it and enjoy the process.
