MY LOVE FOR THE SEASONS OF THE YEAR

The Seasons of the Year, Honey Good smiling in green house. It is officially fall and I am falling in love all over again with the moods of the seasons. Have you ever thought of comparing your state of mind to the moods of the seasons? Each season sparks an aura; a personality of its own. There is a flow of harmony and growth, as one season passes into the next.

Though there are the challenging temperamental storms and sunless days during fall, winter, spring and summer, each is filled with a personal attitude of positivity. There is a multiplication of sunny days and the stimulation of growth that balloons out in colors of flowers and greenery. The fall of glistening white snow, and a desert with its own majesty.

Just as the seasons evolve, so do you. You have your doldrums as do I. You have grumpy times. So do I. Remember that these times are periods of introspective and unknowing personal growth. Your grumpy day will morph into an Ah-Ha day and you’ll say out loud, “I get it!” And, the sun will shine in all its glory. The grey in the snow will turn glistening white and the desert will bloom with flowers on top of cacti.

It is the flow of life, sweet reader. Sometimes you have to swim upstream. At times you can float in peace, downstream. The point is to never stop flowing…like the seasons.

ELSEWHERE IS A CONSTANT NEGATIVE DISTRACTION

Sadly, here is a constant ache in my heart living in Elsewhere. I can have the happiest day and Elsewhere always prevents me from feeling like I should…on top of the world.

Elsewhere is draining me. I abhor everything about Elsewhere because I love my country to the moon. Also, I love democracy. And I loathe, and I mean loathe Socialism, Marxism, Communism…all the isms. Also the politicians and press. And the Zukerbergs ( I sold all my Facebook stock) who are trying to destroy American lives and my country.

I wish I could start a grandmother march across Elsewhere “for democracy.” Undoubtedly, thousands of you would join me for the sake of our children, grandchildren, and our country. America would walk by my side. I am smiling.

MY ULTIMATE CONCIERGE AND THE SEASONS ARE A CONSTANT POSITIVE ATTRACTION

My Husband

I also continue to fall in love all over again with my husband, Shelly. When we met I thought I could not possibly love him more. I was wrong. With each year that I spend with him, my love grows. He is my soulmate, my true love. No matter where I am, he is all around me.

Fall

The Seasons of the Year, Fall, Honey GoodI love the fall because there is energy in the air.

We clean our closets and drawers by paring them down.  Energetically, we then fill them up with the newest style of fall makeup, colorful kitchen utensils, and of course new shoes and accessories. We sink our teeth into our calendars, putting in reminders for the coming months. Then we search Amazon for the best calendar for the new year. Social and charitable organizations gear up and we delve in and help.

There is a crispness in the air for outdoor walks, bike rides, and signing up for new classes. We recharge and wonder in anticipation if new acquaintances will enter our lives.

Fall is all about energy. I am feeling the rush but also a bit melancholy. It’s the time of the year when the birds fly off to warmer weather, the trees begin to lay bare, the grass turns brown and flower beds rest empty. The days are shorter and the nights grow longer.

While I am in love with the moods of the seasons, I am not madly in love with the fall. What new plans do you have this fall?

Winter

The Seasons of the Year, Honey Good smiling holding a stack of wrapped holiday gifts. Next up, there is Winter. I fall in love all over again with winter because of the holidays and fireplaces burning aglow. Love is in full bloom. Winter because it is the time of true love.

Families gather together for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Hanukah. Winter is a time of giving to those in need and visiting our dear loved ones. We feel different moods with the change of the seasons. Winter encompasses a time for celebrations. Of togetherness with unceasing love for family and friends.

The downsides of winter include shortened days and freezing weather. We women over 50 must flow with the days and be grateful.

Spring

The Seasons of the Year. Honey Good leans in to smell orchids. Spring represents harmony. Our windows fly open. The fresh air rushes in. Birds are again chirping and the branches of trees turn from brown to a stunning true green.

It’s time to sweep our homes clean, replant our gardens and put our warm clothes away. Scrabble and other board games are shelved. We are back in harmony with the outdoors and nature.

I cover our bed with duvets in flowered designs and bring out my floral-patterned dishes. The winter clothes are then purged from my closet. I delight in brightening up my wardrobe with whites, florals, summer sandals, and a Panama hat.

I am one happy woman in harmony with spring. Once again I see flowers on my walks with America and green leaves bursting through previously bare branches.

People similarly come out of hibernation, lavishing the thought of once again going out into the world. They feast their eyes on a rebirth of nature and people they have not seen during the long winter months.

A breath of fresh air surrounds me, the days are getting longer and yes, you have guessed it–I never fall out of love with spring. It is my favorite time of the year.

Summer

The seasons of the year woman outside, woman walking outside, Chicago in the springtimeI fall in love with summer all over again, as it is a continuation of spring. Flowers burst out in fuller bloom and the branches of the tree are dressed in their finest greenery.

Lake Michigan, outside my window, looks like a sheet of sheer glass calming all of my senses. Sunrises occur earlier and sunsets take place each day much later. I smile more, walk more, see more friends. I indulge myself in more shopping, travel more, and it seems I mostly have a smile on my face. Life is breezier and lighter.

And, that is where we are today, as we rotate out of summer into fall. I wonder, darlings, what our wheel of fortune will be. Certainly, we will have inconveniences. They must be taken in stride and we must live each day to its fullest. We are all in control of our destinies. Let’s make a plan to make them delicious!

My Ultimate Concierge and The Seasons

We had a whirlwind courtship. He swept me off my feet.

We were married twice; twice in the month of December. Thus the month of December is my favorite month because it celebrates…love for all.

Shelly and I remarried on the Big Island, the Island of Hawaii. A Kahuna, a high priest, presided over the ceremony on the shoreline of the Pacific Ocean.

I have been asked what are the secrets to a happy marriage. While I don’t know all of the secrets, I do know our recipe. Shelly and I fall in love all over again each season of the year.

We fit hand in glove. We’re two peas in a pod; we click. He gives 100% and I have learned to stand up and never sacrifice who I am. Remember that, sweet reader. We respect one another, laugh together and never stay angry.

While we sometimes disagree on how to spend money, because I, like most of you, like to spend. Where he, like your husband or significant other, likes to save. I hope you win like I do!  I am smiling.

He is very rational (I love that) and I balance him out with my curious manner that says, “Why not try!”

My heart melts as he walks through the door 30 years later. He has earned my devotion. He is all around me every day of every month of every season of the year.

What’s your favorite season? How do you continue to fall in love with each season as the months change? Share either in the comments below or on Facebook

Warmly, Honey

Honey — love you, your writing, your husband, family and everything connected with you BUT — please, perhaps it’s because
I’ve been living in the Middle East for many years, and even though I consider myself quite rational, I’ve become slightly superstitious. Whle I doubt it exists I still “fear” the evil eye (don’t laugh) and refrain from praising my family to others too much.

Please think about it and tone down your enthusiasm and love for those you hold dear. at least in your public writing.
I wish y ou all the best.

    • Susan "Honey" Good says:

Thank you for your wisdom, Laura. I do think about what you said when I am writing.I will adhere to your advice. Where do you live. in what city? Tell me about your lifestyle. I have been to every country in the Middle East except for one. Please fill me in. I am thinking about duel citizenship. Warmly, Honey

I love summer, and your blogs,!

  3. Laura BenShmuel says:

    Honey,

I live in Jerusalem. Have been here for over 50 years — came as a volunteer after I finished my university studies.
Met ande married a native-born Israeli. Raised a family — many children and grandchildren. Worked in public relations, administration and editing. Retired now, as is my husband. (a professional). Keep busy writing (non-fiction essays and memoire), keeping up my health through diet and exercise, and still being a “Mom” and “Savta” (that’s Hebrew for “grandmother”) to my family. — a job I will never retire from. Thank the heaves every day for the good life I’ve had.

If you are thinking about duel citizenship, speak to a lawyer and financial advisor who specialize in this area. It’s complicated. Also, I must tell you that here in Israel there are only two serious seasons — winter and summer. Autumn and Spring makie guest appearances — hardly noticeable, gone in the blink of an eye. I miss them.

    Best wishes always, Laura.

    • Susan "Honey" Good says:

Hi Laura, Thank you for enlightening me about your life in Jerusalem. I love Israel to my core. I know that Savta means grandma 🙂 and I would love to live in Israel. I have an Israeli son-in-law, I have been to Israel three times, I have friends and cousins in Israel and I love being, Jewish and having a soul sister on HoneyGood. Shalom, Honey
