It seems the whole country has fallen under a bit of a cold spell. Darlings, as a born and raised Midwesterner I know firsthand it is NOT EASY to look chic when you are freezing! I love my beautiful Chicago, but the city has absolutely forced me to invest in adorable winter wear, especially with my home being so close to frigid Lake Michigan! Even in the winter, I often walk to my eight am pilates class and I must cover my head.
So here I am, darling, to share with you my tips and suggestions for buying outerwear that will keep you feeling good and looking fabulous. Today it’s all about the hat.
Generally speaking, your body gets cold more quickly if your head is not covered. So in cold temps, it is crucial to give your head a little extra help with a hat. This can cause quite a conundrum. What about all the time you spent on your hair? Does a hat have to match all your coats? Warmth vs. style? And etc. etc. So today I’m going to go through some of my favorite hats and do a little online shopping with you to help you find the hat that is right for you.
Winter Hats for Women Over 50
Dark Beanie
I know it is quite popular to have a big furry ball bouncing on top of your head. I like the look, but it isn’t really my look. I go with a sleek and simple black beanie. It matches most things, but the knit gives it a little extra flair without being over the top.
Light Beanie
This is a beautiful cream hat by Louis Vuitton so I’m going to make the case for light winter accessories. Winter and cold weather are automatically so dreary, dear readers. Be a ray of sunshine for people! Go light! That could mean blush colors or icy blues or creamy ivories, but it will help break up all the dark and black out there. It will lighten up your face as well!
Beret
A beret can sometimes bring up the style or warmth debate. Any hat is better than no hat! So when the temperature dips, but it’s not shivering cold out you can opt for style over function. Like these adorable berets!
Headband
If you won’t be traversing through the frozen landscape (meaning you will only be outside for a reasonable length of time and aren’t anticipating freezing outside) a headband is a good way to do minimal hair damage. I also really like headbands when women have shorter hair. You can still see the ‘do that way and it becomes a fashion piece really.
Always always always safety before style darlings! Frigid temperatures are no joke and no hairstyle or event is more important than staying warm and being safe at low temperatures. So wear the hat and the gloves and the scarves: Matching and style and “your look” must always come secondary. Stay warm!

Ok so I’m an ardent follower of all things/recommendations/advice from Honey Good!!! So, would you share the makeup you wear that it white/silver above your eyelashes and in the inner corners? It’s so pretty and really brightens up your eyes!
Feeling the warmth with these adorable hats, thanks for sharing this one. You have a really nice blog.
Thank you!!!! Glad you enjoyed. Warmly, Honey
My girlfriend is 73 (I’m 59) and she loves to wear just a simple black or dark beanie when she’s outside during the winter months. She prefers cashmere to all other materials because it’s really soft and close fitting to her head. She also feels ‘invisible ‘ now that she’s a mature lady unlike when she was young in her 20s for example. I really love this website it is so helpful to lady’s of a certain age.
Simple is best! She should shine, not her hat!!! I am smiling. I am glad you enjoy my website. Best…Honwy
