Steals and splurges: The best lipsticks for women over 50

Honey Good discusses the best lipsticks for women over 50

Lipstick is a beauty must! When we’re young, it’s often all about the color of the moment but as we mature, the best lipsticks for women over 50 need something we already have… staying power!

Does that mean you need a pricey lipstick? Not at all, dear readers. Quality comes in all types of lipstick cases so think of price like we think of our age —it’s just a number!

That’s why, today, I’ve rounded up the very best lipstick brands from absolute bargains to splurge-worthy investments.

The best lipsticks for women over 50

STEAL: Revlon

A great, long-wearing lipstick that lasts and lasts, doesn’t feather and comes in a variety of hues can be found right at your local drugstore. It’s called Revlon ColorStay lipstick and it will set you back about $10 at most local drugstore or mass retailers, like Target and Walmart.

SPLURGE: Marc Jacobs

I’ve been a fan of Marc Jacobs Beauty for years, and the lipstick is among the best products in the brand’s collection.

Le Marc lipstick is a rich, creamy lipstick that offers indulgent color with 10 hours of wear; get it for $30 at Sephora.

Marc Jacobs and Revlon brands both produce some of the best lipsticks for women over 50

STEAL: Wet N Wild

Yes, I’m really recommending this uber-affordable drugstore brand. Have you tried it?

Wet n Wild’s Mega Last Lip Color — just $2 — is a bit of a cult beauty secret. Available in a range of hues, the rich colors don’t cake, feather or bleed. The company claims that, “Hyaluronic microspheres provide extraordinary adhesion to lips.” Which means this lipstick will stay on your lips, as it should, without migrating into fine lines.

SPLURGE: Stila

Have you heard of Stila, dear readers? I’m not alone in loving Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick, $24, TotalBeauty.com readers have voted it one of the best lipsticks of 2017!

What’s your go-to lipstick? What do you recommend as the best lipsticks for women over 50? Do tell! I would so love to hear from you either in the comments below or on FacebookTwitter and Instagram.

    Love this post Susan,

I think lipstick looks great on women in their 50s. I think I’ll splurge on one of the Marc Jacobs lipsticks – pricey, but worth it! My biggest recommendation for women over 50 when it comes to lipstick is to stick to high-quality lipsticks with non-toxic ingredients. Did you know that ricinoleic acid is commonly used in lipsticks, and it’s the main culprit of lip-product-related allergic contact cheilitis? If you’ve noticed your skin becoming more sensitive as you age, we recently posted a piece detailing some of the allergy-causing lip product ingredients that you may want to avoid:

Thanks again for the recommendations – can’t wait to get my hands on the Marc Jacobs lipstick!

    Laura.
