It’s 6:25 a.m. on a Saturday morning, and I’m sitting at the living room game table I usually appropriate for work every morning, writing and sipping delicious hot steaming coffee from my favorite French mug. Whenever I look up—which is often given the stunning panoramic view of Lake Michigan right outside our floor-to-ceiling windows—I’m treated to a stunning sunrise. And this morning, I realize something has changed significantly; the sun has moved south in the sky and is rearing its head a little later than usual. It lets me know fall is in the air.Read More
Michael Kors Pleated Georgette Maxi Dress; $87.99 online here.
Maxi dresses are a staple transition piece. They are perfectly breezy for the extremely hot temps that come with the end of summer, but just throw on a blazer or a denim jacket and a pair of flats and they also work for early fall. The key to transitioning maxis is to layer and then define your waist with a belt for some structure. I love the look of a maxi with a knotted chambray shirt!Read More

Trend 1: Renaissance Looks
Bell sleeves, velvet, corsets, and artsy prints are making a comeback this fall. All the designers had a different take on this trend, with Gucci using brighter colors and combining materials and Vanessa Seward sticking with velvet and darker hues. To embrace the Renaissance style this fall without looking like you are wearing a costume, I recommend picking one trend at a time. I love how wearable the Rebecca Minkoff top below is and the Off-5th velvet dress has just the right amount of velvet to give a subtle nod to the trend without being over the top.
REBECCA MINKOFF SHANAYA BELL-SLEEVE CREPE TOP, DEEP MAGENTA; $ 128 online here.
MILLY SELENA OFF-THE-SHOULDER MIDI DRESS, BLACK; $485 online here.
IVANKA TRUMP PLEATED VELVET PANELED SHEATH DRESS; $60 online here.
Trend 2: Capelets
Also making a comeback from the past are capelets. The Halogen coat below is a great starter coat if you are just looking to test out the trend since the capelet is removable. If you are ready to dive in the Burberry trench coat is such a divine investment peice.
BURBERRY BRIT 'CHERRYMORE' CAPELET GUNFLAP TRENCH COAT; $1,095 online here.
HALOGEN ® COAT WITH REMOVABLE CAPELET; $179 online here.
Trend 3: Guitar Strap Bags
Extra wide and embellished straps take bags to a new level this season. For a look that is still refined and chic as well as on-trend, I love the subtle zebra strap detail of the Marc Jacobs bag below.
MARC JACOBS - RECRUIT WITH GUITAR STRAP SADDLE BAG; $495 online here.
NANCY GONZALEZ CROCODILE GUITAR-STRAP TOP-HANDLE BAG, TAUPE/PINK; $3,850 online here.
Trend 4: Mesh and Embroidery
We've been seeing lace for a while now, which is why I am so excited for this new trend! I especially love when you combine mesh and embroidery like the looks seen at Alberta Ferretti, which is why I adore the David Meister dress below.
DAVID MEISTER LONG-SLEEVE EMBROIDERED JERSEY DRESS; $495 online here.
Trend 5: Midi Hems
So many designers featured the midi hem this year, and for a good reason! These hemlines elongate your figure making you appear taller, and since they stop either at or below your knee, they are both appealing and appropriate.
