Going Grey With True Grace

Going Grey With True Grace

As women, not just over 50, but for most of our lives, we were taught that we needed to look and act a certain way in order to be “lady like.” And depending on the type of woman you are, it may not have ever bothered you not to challenge the status quo.

But darlings, don’t you ever get just plain tired of catering to what society’s definition of beauty is? I know I do!

That’s why I think it’s time we speak up for ourselves and for our beautiful grands, so that they may grow up knowing they’re perfect just the way they are.

We can start by embracing the natural aging process and deciding once and for all that our grey hair makes us no less fabulous than we have always been. Who’s with me?

Going Grey With True Grace

How can you start embracing your natural beauty? One option is to stop coloring your hair! And while I realize this may not be the solution for everyone, just know you’re beautiful whether you color your hair or whether you choose to let those gorgeous silver roots grow out.

Plus, you can always go back to coloring your hair if you grow it out for a while and decide you need another change. We’re strong, visible and vibrant women, and that means we have choices, darlings!

Once your grey locks have grown out a bit, you might consider using some products specifically formulated for grey hair. Because like always, hair needs to be in great condition to look and feel its best. These options are some of the most effective on the market!

Going gray was one of the best decisions I ever made! I think silver is very flattering, and let’s face it, when you dye your hair you’re really not fooling anyone! As you said, just try it! You can always go back.

I love your stories and look forward each day to reading them. Thank you!

  2. Diana Banks says:

Totally agree! I am growing out my grey. Decided to stop putting chemicals on my scalp ( skin being our largest organ)…and to regain all time spent in salon ( time is precious)…and to be free from the dictates of society that says we should do and look a certain way…not to mention the money spent!
    Natural and free!

  3. Kim Thompsen says:

At 53, I’ve just started going gray. Most of it is in the underside and the side of my face. I started wearing my hair back, unabashedly unashamed of my graying locks. I like the glittery silver tone I see! 🙂

  4. Jenna says:

Yay! My dear friend challenges me to “Be Bold, Claim Old” and stop dyeing my hair 5 years ago. I’m 53 and loving the grey and silver. It’s the texture of my hair that suffers. It’s very course and thick. So. My fab hairdresser friend me onto Monat. All vegan and natural ingredients to cleanse the hair. I switched 7 months ago and will never go back. Wash 2x a week and my hair is perfect! http://Www.monat.com.
Thank you Honey for putting this out there and your commitment to creating beautiful and energized conversations about women aging!!!!!!!

  5. Eileen Higham says:

Thank you ! At age 65 , I am so tired of coloring my hair , I am going cold turkey and will love whatever color I get as the weeks go by . My hair is thin and stringy so hopefully it will grow in a bit stronger. Fingers crossed.

  6. Jane says:

I started getting white hair in my 40’s and never dyed it, though I think about dying it all the time. I’m 51 now, and struggle with society’s definition of beauty for women – which is not white hair. I am working on embracing the true me, and seeing beyond what is believed to be “beautiful.”

    • Susan "Honey" Good says:

My advice is this: If you like your grey hair keep it grey. If you do not like it go for a change. Follow your heart. It knows exactly how you feel. Warmly, Honey

  7. Barbara Dorf says:

How do you manage getting from coloring your hair and letting the natural color shine? The change doesn’t happen overnight, especially for shoulder length hair. Any suggestions?

  8. Annette says:

I am 46 and have very long hair. I have never colored my hair and I have alot of gray. I need help making it look less dried out and frizzy. I look forward to the day I will have shiny healthy silver hair, if it will ever happen.

    • Susan "Honey" Good says:

I am sure it can happen.Drink lots of water. Go to a professional and ask for help. Where there is a will, there is a way! Warmly, Honey
