My Granddaughter’s Life or Death Battle Against Cancer

I have been up most of the night. How can I sleep when my first born grandson Robbie’s young wife Noel, my granddaughter, is critically ill? I had written to you a few weeks ago about my granddaughter’s life or death battle against cancer. Sadly, Noel’s cancer returned after a year’s remission. So many of you wrote back to me with your loving messages. Thank you.

Before I tell her story, I am reaching out to all of you darlings with Noel’s exact words…

The Fighting Phoenix

If you can help with the above request, please respond to me directly on my HoneyGood facebook or on Honeygood.com.

The Story of My Granddaughter’s Life or Death Battle Against Cancer

I got the shocking news in Honfleur, France sitting at dinner with four of our grands and my ultimate concierge. We were on a family trip. Needless to say, I was beyond shocked and filled with dread.

My relationship with Noel began when my grandson, Robbie fell madly in love with ‘Noel Chick.’ That love is even stronger today.

Robbie gave Noel her nickname and Noel gave me mine. About four years ago the three of us were sitting on the couch in our home in California. I turned to Noel and asked her how she perceived me as a grandmother figure for my blog, HoneyGood.com. In less than a minute, she looked up at me and said, you are a “21st Century Grandmother.”

Fast forward one year ago, Noel Chick and the 21st Century Grandmother were both in hospitals having cancer surgery, a day apart. Fast forward one year. We both were having our cancer checks at the same time. We were both given a thumbs up.

And then, indescribably, fast forward, six weeks later… Noel was not fine. The cancer had returned, and it was far worse. Noel had immediate surgery; a complete hysterectomy, part of her intestine removed and a colostomy! Why did the test taken six weeks before not show the cancer had returned? How could this be happening to our darling Noel Chick?

Well it happened, and it has gone from hopeful to less hopeful, but I am not giving up on her survival. Noel is young and strong-minded and wants to live.

Noel’s Cancer Battle

Noel has a type of Ovarian Cancer that attacks only young women in their twenties. It is the same form of cancer that attacks young men in their twenties. Lance Armstrong is a survivor of this dreaded disease.

After speaking to doctors at MD Anderson in Texas, it was decided by the family that Noel would be treated by Lance Armstrong’s Doctor, Dr. Adra and Dr. Einhorn who happens to be in Indiana.

Noel was seen by the doctors and her chance for survival was a 70% chance. That meant 7 out of the 10 young people with this form of cancer would survive. The family and Noel and Robbie were very hopeful. She was to start her treatment tomorrow. The treatment was to last for over two months. Her own bone marrow transplant and chemo were in the plans.

It was decided the young family, with their one-year-old child, Leia, and Noel’s parents and sister would move to Indiana for two + months of treatment. They rented an apartment in Indiana near the hospital, Robbie quit his job. Noel quit hers. Not long ago they had moved into a fabulous new love nest that would now sit vacant.

Everyone was emotionally eager to start Noel on her treatment plan, and all were energized.

A Frightening Turn Of Events

Unfortunately, Noel became ill again at the end of last week and was rushed back before her scheduled date of arrival. More tests were run, and yesterday an awful diagnosis was made. Her tumors had mutated, and now her chance for survival was lessened by a large percentage.

Noel started a regimen of oral chemo yesterday. The doctors are hopeful this drug will shrink the tumors. If this occurs, she will proceed to the next level of treatment. If the procedure does not work, I believe, but I am not 100% sure, there will be no more treatment.

We all ask, “Why do bad things happen to good people.” There is no fact-finding or intellectual answer to the question. But there is hope. That hope, I have read, is entrenched within one’s will to fight… and feeling loved. The mind has a force of its own. Noel is strong. Noel is adored. Let us help her with any SUBSTANTIAL information you may have.

You can follow my grandchild Noel’s story on Instagram, @THE_FIGHTING_PHOENIX. If you correspond with her, let her know you are one of my darlings so she will know who you are.

AND LET US BE STRONG FOR NOEL WITH WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT. Amen.

If you have any information that can help Noel in her fight against this rare cancer, please share your thoughts either in the comments below or on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram.

My one and only suggestion would be to go to MD Anderson. It is my hometown hospital and I worked there for many years. I truly believe they are the best of the best, especially for such a rare condition. It does sound like your family consulted there.
My heart and prayers are with you and this beloved young woman.

  13. Ann Terry says:

My heart breaks for you. I don’t know of a conventional treatment but I urge you to begin quickly looking at “the truth about cancer” blog and website by Ty & Charlene Bollinger, and even reach out to them. In addition to the chemo please consider immediately beginning a nutritional treatment to help her immune system. When cancer returns it is much more aggressive
God bless her and your family

    Hello Honey,

First let me tell you how much I love your website. It is a daily inspiration in this not so pleasant process of aging.

I read about your granddaughters ordeal and I’m so sorry. There is a very informative website on the internet called Patient Power. It was created by a professional journalist called Andrew Schorr. He and his wife live in California by the way, maybe you could contact him directly for speedy results. It is full of the most recent and competent information on every type of cancer. Patient Power has innumerable articles written by oncologists, online conferences, patient testimonials etc. etc. I really think it is the best source of information you can find.

I hope this helps. Best wishwes to Noel, I will be thinking of her,

  18. Rose says:

Book, Knockout Interviews with Doctors Who Are Curing Cancer by Suzanne Somers. Perhaps some information here will be helpful. Sending love and prayers for All.
