Natural Ways To Look and Feel Young After 50+

Darlings, today’s musing was written by the wonderful Paisley Hansen. Paisley is a freelance writer and expert in health, fitness, beauty, and fashion. Today she educates us on natural ways to look and feel young after 50+. Enjoy!

A Fact Of Life

Aging may be a fact of life, but most don’t want to ever feel old. The reality is, how old you feel can often have more to do with your lifestyle choices than your birthday. Just because you’re getting older doesn’t mean you have to lose your youthful outlook on life. Additionally, making some tweaks to your lifestyle and habits may go a long way towards both looking and feeling younger.

Try Supplements

One way that you can help to boost your health without having to make a drastic change to your lifestyle is by trying a supplement. A vitamin or mineral supplement can be a good option for those looking to prevent or reverse a nutrient deficiency, but they can also be helpful as energy boosters as well.

There can be many kinds of supplements, and you should always do your research or consult with a doctor before adding anything new to your diet. Figuring out what’s best for you is the first place to start!

Eat a Youthful Diet

Diet can play a significant role in how old you feel. Because of this, making sure to include youthful foods into your diet can be beneficial. Foods full of healthy fats are one example of youth-boosting foods. Good ways to add more healthy fat into your diet can include eating fatty fish, such as salmon, as well as cooking with extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil. Many fruits and vegetables like apples, strawberries, tomatoes, carrots, and fresh greens can also be youth boosters as well. Also, what you don’t eat may be almost as important as what you do eat. Because of this, it can be worth it to avoid foods high in sugar and refined carbs, which can be damaging to health.

Hydrate Yourself

Along with getting the right nutrition, making sure that you’re properly hydrated can be important as well. Dehydration can lead to a host of health problems over time and can cause troublesome symptoms such as irritability and headaches.

Because of this, it can be helpful to drink plenty of water throughout the day. Also, there can be other drinks such as green tea, that can help with your fluid intake but also provide other health and youth-boosting benefits due to its high levels of antioxidants.

Stay Active

Keeping fit can not only help you feel better about how you look, but it can help you to feel better physically, too. Also, it can be helpful to explore different kinds of exercise until you find workouts that you enjoy. While some may opt for more intense workouts like cardio or lifting weights, there can be a wide variety of exercises that can help you both stay active and enjoy yourself. Brisk nature walks can be both calming and energizing, as can other laid back exercises like yoga and Tai Chi.

Banish Worries

Stress can not only wreak havoc on your health, but it may make you feel older than you really are, too. This may be in part because stress increases stress hormones within our bodies such as cortisol and adrenaline. While it may be normal for these hormones to be present in small amounts, if they are too high it could have a negative impact on your overall health.

Because of this, learning to combat stress may be a good way to feel youthful no matter what your age. Although it may not be possible to avoid stress altogether, simply taking some time to reduce feelings of stress when you’re experiencing them is often beneficial. There can be many ways to combat stress, from meditation and deep breathing exercises to spending some time on a hobby that you enjoy.

Get the Sleep You Need

Sleep can play an important role in keeping you healthy and vibrant. When you sleep, your body often undergoes many healing and reparative processes. If you don’t get enough sleep or don’t get sleep that is deep enough, your body may not be able to undergo these processes. This could lead to you feeling symptoms in the short term such as irritability and headaches and could lead to other more troublesome health issues in the long term. Even though it may not always be possible to get the full recommended eight hours of sleep, getting in an extra hour or two a night may be enough to help you feel better.

The Final Word

Although aging is a fact of life, feeling old doesn’t have to be. For many, age is simply a number. However, your lifestyle choices can have a big impact on how young and healthy you feel in your day to day life.

So, no matter your age, there are things you can do to help yourself feel vibrant and energetic. By taking some time to make a few lifestyle tweaks, you can help yourself to feel young for years to come.

In addition to the suggestions you listed, I think we should dress with the times. Wear clothes that compliment our figure and get a hair style that is becoming. These things don’t need to be expensive, just flattering. When you look good, you have a younger outlook.
