SKINCARE FOR SENIORS | TOP BEAUTY PRODUCTS YOU NEED

Honey's senior skin care choices

Skin Care for Seniors: Top Beauty Products You Need!

As a senior, skincare is very important. However, looking good doesn’t have to involve a lot of complicated rituals. Think basic when it comes to beauty. If you’re focusing on overall health and fitness, a great hairstyle, and optimized nutrition, you’re already halfway there. Even if you have little time to spare, a few multitasking products can make all the difference in your appearance. Here are a few items to keep on hand in your bathroom to get your glow going.

Moisturizer + SPF

The number one most important skincare for seniors … Let’s talk moisturizers and SPF! If you want radiant skin, drinking lots of water, ingesting healthy fats, and hydrating in the bath or shower is the first step. Sealing in moisture is the second step. You might need different types of creams or lotions for your face and body, or you might find that one does the trick.

From inexpensive oils and butters (shea butter is popular lately) to high-end creams, there’s something for everyone’s skin and budget. When you apply, don’t forget areas like your upper chest, elbows, and the soles of your feet.

Serum

In the last decade, serums have burst onto the skincare scene boasting powerful and effective formulas that penetrate for dramatic results. You can even find products that help the all-important brow area like Thick + Full Brow Enhancing Serum. Formulas vary a great deal, so be sure to read directions carefully to get the best results; it’s important to know how your serum may interact with other skincare products.

Careful layering is essential. Serums have game-changing potential for the look and feel of your skin — if you’re patient and consistent with their use, you’ll find them well worth the investment.

Important Skincare for Seniors – Eye Cream

Next up for skincare for seniors, let’s focus on the eyes. The skin around your eyes is thin, delicate, and prone to drying out easily. Usually, wrinkles first form here — even when you’re young. Prevention is key when you’re thinking about keeping that skin healthy; usually, a light cream will work best at first. As you get older, you can choose among many types of eye creams that address a multitude of issues.

From puffiness to dark circles, creases to fine lines, good eye creams got you covered. It’s a necessary base for concealers, too. Adjust the formulation gradually as years go by — your skin will thank you for it.

Facial Cleanser

There’s an overwhelming variety of choices when it comes to cleansing your skin; the main idea is to remove any accumulation of grime and sweep away dead skin cells. Go as gentle as possible. Know your skin type. Normal, oily, dry, sensitive, and combination skin will require different types of cleansers. Also, consider the amount of makeup you wear on a typical day — this will affect the strength of the product you choose.

Take a careful look at the ingredient list. Some chemicals used in facial cleansers can cause irritation or have been found to be problematic when used long-term. When making your decision, try to balance safety and effectiveness.

Face Wipes

Sometimes, it can seem like too much trouble to wash your face in the evening or when you’ve just gotten out of bed. Face wipes are the perfect solution if you’re in that situation — they’re fast and easy to use. They’re a great alternative for travel, too.

Face wipes are getting gentler and more effective; take a look at online reviews to compare, and try a few different types to find the best one for you.

BB Cream

BB (beauty balm) creams have become the go-to alternative to foundation, and provide an additional layer of moisture, treatment, and SPF protection for skin — not to mention giving your skin a big dose of radiance. As you select your BB cream, notice how it feels over your moisturizer. You might find that you need to use less, depending on your needs. Dot and blend on your neck and upper chest, too.

Concealer

Concealer is like a magic trick for your skin — as you get better at using it, you’ll be amazed at all the things it can do. It’s a must-have skincare for seniors item! Covering up dark circles and puffiness, taking care of blemishes, and zapping areas of redness can all be done in a few seconds. Here’s another case where all the different textures available — creams, sticks, and wands — will affect your unique skin in different ways. Getting the color right is essential, too.

Dry Shampoo

Like face washing, sometimes it’s hard to find the time to shampoo your hair. That’s where dry shampoos come to the rescue. Far from the powdery, drying sprays of the past, you can now find powders and light mists that clean thoroughly and give your hair a great body boost. Shampooing too often can be damaging; using dry shampoo at the roots helps stretch out that in-between time.

A few top beauty products can transform the way you look. Try some of these products for great results!

Everyone concerned about the chemicals and ingredients in any makeup, eye care, lotions, cremes, soaps, nail care, body wash, and hair products should check composition of each product on the website of the Environmental Working Group (EWG): https://www.ewg.org/

Lots of other good information about health and healthy homes on this site. Especially insightful for people who have compromised immune systems or allergies.

I like Beauty Counter and Oil of Olay . Also some Merle Norman products.

  3. Linda Kay Meyers says:

I really like all of the Cerave products for the skin. For puffiness and dark circles around the eye area, I have found that a good caffeine eye cream work wonders – it’ takes about 6 weeks to see an improvement, so please be patient. Another must, removing makeup before going to bed is so important – your skin will thank you for it.
