My New Year’s resolutions of the past have never worked out well. They never worked because my resolutions were too specific. An example would be losing weight. This placed me under pressure. I felt a knot in my tummy because if I didn’t lose the weight I was upset and if I did succeed I set a higher goal! It never ended.
As you may have read in my recent blog, I’ve decided to look at resolutions in a new way. Now, I would like to take it a step further! This is my right, as a woman 50+. Wouldn’t you agree?
A THEME FOR THE NEW YEAR
This year I decided to base my New Year’s resolution on a theme instead of a singular goal. My inspiration came in the form of an article that peaked my fancy.
A writer, for the past six years, based his New Year’s resolution on one general thought that he calls a theme. One year his theme was — invest. Another year he chose the theme — focus. He has had personal success with his theory for the past six years.
I decided to follow his theory in 2022.
I read the article sitting next to my Ultimate Concierge. Without warning, a word burst forth in my head. I could not believe what happened. I was starry-eyed, in a state of awe. A sense of enlightenment overcame me. Peace was my word and I spoke it aloud.
Peace will be my theme for 2022. I am elated.
It was a miraculous and enlightening moment. My emotions ranged from joyful, forgiving, optimistic, and humble. I was in the moment and a peaceful calm embodied me.
My Ultimate Concierge was sitting next to me when I had this epiphany, my moment of awareness, my enlightenment.
I turned to him and asked him what theme would enlighten him in 2022.
His answer came to him as quickly as mine came to me. I was shocked by how quickly he said, “Love.”
I said to him , “OMG, you chose Love and I chose Peace!”
PEACE
PEACE will weave through all the threads of my daily life. It will empower me to have and give emotional comfort.
The theme, Peace, will help me control angry moments, angry intentions, and ultimately positive decisions. I have raised the bar on my behavior for 2022. My wish is to strive for a higher standard of peaceful negotiation.
When someone upsets me and I want to lash out, I will think of the word, Peace. This will stop me in my tracks. I say to myself, “What a lovely way to start the New Year.”
I want to thank the writer for enlightening me with his approach. He made me aware of themed resolutions. His idea initiated me to reflect on my personal life journey and excited me to take action. My chosen theme, Peace, is going to activate a positive thought process that will propel me into an enlightened state.
Here are some themes to work on in 2022:
- Change
- Balance
- Companionship
- Parenting
- Grand Parenting
- Idleness
- Loneliness
- Invisibility
Happy New Year…sweet readers 50+!
What is your theme?
Prayer. It came to me just as quickly as yours did. Thank you for your article. All my very best, Patty 🙏❤️🙏
It is amazing how the word comes so quickly!! It is meant to be! Happy New Year!!! Warmly, Honey
Thank you for sharing. I loved the idea and plan to adopt it as well. I believe if you have Peace then everything else will fall into place. Eliminating the need to make resolutions one only frets about.
Using one word can impact us throughout the day in a positive way in all areas of our life. No more frets over resolutions. Happy New Year! Warmly, Honey
I am amazed at the Synchronicity of your blog this morning. I too had decided to chose a word for my path this year.
I chose the word “Create” because of the need to bring joy to my daily life.
I also chose a color and because I couldn’t think of just one a chose the rainbow colors.
A sign of hope for me.
Blessing on you and your team, I love your blog!
Thank you, Patti
I love the idea of adding the rainbow of colors. I would choose the color, green because I love nature. And, the rainbow, too. Blessing sent back to you and yours. Warmly, Honey
Hello honey that’s been my theme for the last several years love never fails. ❤️
I wish I had used a theme for the past several years! From now on, I will. Happy New Year to you!! Warmly, Honey
Going forward
Going forward. Love it. Live today to its fullest and move forward. Warmly, Honey
My word this year is FAITH. It was the first word that came to my mind when I decided to chose a word for the year.
Faith that I will make good choices
Faith that when things don’t work out the way I think they should, that it’s still for the best
Faith in my abilities
Etc, etc, etc.
A great word. I am glad you liked my musing. So many readers did. Happy New Year. Aloha, Honey
Grace and “gentleness “. I believe this would lead to love, compassion and peace.
Your thinking is wise. You took two words and broadened them. I think that is the purpose of using one word. You are able to think about the word(s) and direct them in so many directions. Happy New Year. Warmly, Honey
I have never been a resolution person either. I have often focused on a word for the new year and my word this year is gracious.
I love your word! My girlfriend Frankie’s word is passionate. To be gracious is such a lovely action and can be used in so many situations. Happy Gracious New Year to you! Warmly, Honey
Honey, I love this. I was of the same mind. My word was Passion. I wanted to feel Passionate about things in 2022.. I felt like I had lost my passion for all things especially in. 2021, but here we are, a week into January, and I found my first something to feel passionate about. I was so worried that this feeling was maybe gone for good!
I hope everyone tries this ‘no fail’ approach to discovering somethjng new for themselves in 2022
Happy New Year Frankie! I am so glad we had the same thought because I admire you. It is good to have a general thought because it can involve so many aspects of our lives…just one word. I wish you a passionate 2022!!! Warmly, Honey
Positivity is my theme for 2022. I’m always trying to rephrase any judgmental or negative thoughts to more positive whether toward myself or thoughts about others, situations, challenges, etc..It completely changes my world. Thank you for this!
The best word. You are special. Warmly, Honey
